MMSHS stages Protest demanding Reconstruction of Mularpatna Bridge

Mangaluru: The Muthur Mularpatna Sethuve Horata Samiti staged a protest in front of the DC office on July 15, demanding the reconstruction of the Mularpatna bridge which had collapsed last year (2018) during the rainy season.

Addressing the protesters senior Advocate B A Muhammed Haneef said, “The Mularpatna bridge connected Mularpatna to Ganjimat – Taremar – Kuppepadav – Muthur. But last year due to illegal sand mining in the area the Mularpatna bridge was affected and collapsed. The bridge was connecting two Taluks but our elected representatives failed to reconstruct it. The school children, the elderly and others who were using the bridge every day to commute have been facing problems since then”.

Haneef further said, “Even though the bridge had collapsed last year, the MLA of the North Constituency is not showing any interest to reconstruct it. Whereas he is very much appreciating the swift construction of the Gurupur bridge. Why is the MLA not showing any interest in reconstructing the Mularpatna bridge? Is it not coming under his constituency? I urge the District Minister In-charge U T Khader to intervene and take the initiative in reconstructing the Mularpatna bridge.”

Vice President of the Samiti Jayanth Badagabellur said, “After the collapse of the bridge the number of students studying in the Muthur government school has decreased. Parents send their children to other schools spending a huge amount. We request the concerned authorities as well as the elected representatives to take the initiative to reconstruct the Mularpatna bridge.”

MMSHS president Hariyappa Muthur, Dayanand Shetty, Ganesh Poojary, Muhammed Ansar, Ahamed Bava, Shivanand Muthur, Muhammed Basheer and others were also present.

Later the DC met the protesters in front of the DC office gate and received the memorandum from

them. DC Sasikanth Senthil assured the protesters of reconstructing the bridge as soon as possible.
