Udupi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s welfare speeches have destroyed the Dalits, the very slogan Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas has changed into Daliton Ka Vinash, Daliton ka Sarvnash said Jignesh Mevani, A Dalit Activist and Leader of the Uprising in Una. He was delivering the keynote address at the concluding ceremony of “Chalo Udupi” convention at Beedinagudde ground on October 9.

Gujarat model is nothing but a fool’s paradise, the youth who are detained in the Gujarat riots are the children of backward classes and not of the upper castes and BJP leaders. We need to understand the communal agenda of Hindu extremists as vigilantism is destroying our country. The 746 Adivasi Dalits and 797 people from other backward classes were detained during the Gujarat riots. There are only a few from Brahmin, Patel and Benita community who are behind bars for the riots.

The Gujarat model is discussed nationwide, but still, racism and apartheid are in practice in Gujarat. Dalits are still under the police scanner, 14000 cases of atrocities on the Dalits are registered in Gujarat between 2001-14. Modi who proclaims to be the follower of BR Ambedkar is silent over the rape of Dalit women in Gujarat. The traditional practices of harassing the Dalits are still in force in Gujarat.

Hindu extremists are sowing the seeds of communalism and cow protection, thus dividing the people of the country. Narendra Modi’s followers who had promised Ache Din are now hiding. A representative of Namo Brigade says that the Dalits have caused harm to Udupi by holding “Chalo Udupi”. But efforts will be made to cleanse their minds which are filled with vigilantism and extremism.

The Una issue has become such a big deal since it has been gaining momentum. It was waiting to happen since, in Gujarat, most of the Dalits are landless. The Una model of struggle will prevail over India, Dalits should be united in fighting against extremism and atrocities. Ambani and Adani have taken land belonging to the Dalits and voices will be raised against them.

The Sangh Parivar and BJP began their project of saffronizing Dalits across the country, they also tried it in Gujarat. However, in the largely anti-people, anti-poor Gujarat development model, the Dalit do not have anything except defeat and exploitation. There was a time when the Dalits were convinced of the Hindutva ideology but that phase is ending now, they know what their agenda is. Ever since Modi became the Prime Minister, the Sangh Parivar fringe groups have become more assertive in the country.

The cow protection groups are rising in Karnataka and Gujarat after Modi has come to power. Every citizen of India should raise his/her voice against such groups which destroy humanity.

75% of land has to be allotted to the Dalits in villages, but the law is not effectively implementing. All efforts will be made to implement the law to provide justice for Dalits.

The government of Karnataka should release a report on the distribution of land to Dalits. The cow protection committees should be scrapped with immediate effect. The “Pankti Bheda” practice should be banned immediately, or else severe agitations will be held in the near future.

Convener of Udupi Chalo march B R Bhaskar in his introductory note said that efforts should be made to eliminate extremism. These extremists attack churches and Dalits in the name of religion, they kill people in the name of cow protection. On one hand, they speak against cow slaughter but they are the ones who export cow meat. The victims of their double standards are the Dalits and youth of the backward class.

Activist Vikas Maurya said that Hindu extremists earlier used to shout on the streets but these days they have started to examine fridges and utensils. We should Unite India against all odds of extremism and vigilantism.

Shaymraj Birthi, Bhaskar Prasad, Hulikuntemoorthy, Gowri, Shashidhar Hemmadi, Dinesh Ameen Mattu, Gowri Lankesh, A K Subbayya, Fr William Martis, G Rajeshekar, C S Dwarakanath, Noor Shridhar, Sundar Master, Jayan Malpe and others were present.

  1. As I had clearly predicted in my previous post, this event has delivered on its anti-brahmana agenda. These are a fading group of ‘bandaaaya’ activists from Lankesh-era (late 80s to early 90s). No wonder Lankesh’s daughter was invited to this event. To be fair, country still needs to do a lot more to make lives of Dalits better. However, these raging activists and their anti-capitalism agenda combined with brahmana-dhwesha have been rejected by society since mid-90s. People have realized that quality education, high paying jobs and capitalism are far better than politics of rage and hatred.
