Monti Fest Ushers in the Spirit of Harvest in City

Mangaluru: The Christian fraternity from various parishes in the Mangaluru diocese celebrated “Monti Fest” the birthday of Mother Mary, also known as the “Nativity Feast”, with devotion and enthusiasm on September 8.

In Bendur Parish, the procession of the Bambina of Virgin Mary was taken in a procession at 7:30 am from the Brigitine Convent, Calvery Hill Nanthur and Presidency Zone 1, Bendurwell at 7.45 am.

The procession culminated at St Sebastian Church premises, accompanied by the faithful carrying the sheaves of newly grown paddy.

Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church Fr Vincent F Montiero blessed the newly grown paddy which was followed by the children offering flowers to Mother Mary as the congregation sang “Sakkad Sangatha Melya”.

Resident Priest of Bendur Parish Fr Walter D’Mello along with the Parish Priest  Fr Vincent F Montiero and other priests celebrated the festive mass.

In his homily, Fr Walter D’Mello speaking about the significance of the feast and Mother Mary said that Mother Mary is God’s most loved creation. Mother Mary’s birth was Salvation’s dawn; her birth marked a new era. He also said that the Nativity feast brings unity in every family and renews it with love and understanding.

New grown paddy corn was distributed to the parishioners and children left happily with sugar canes!
