Moodbidri: Mother and Son Die in Suspected Electrocution Accident

Moodbidri: A woman and her 18-year-old son died in a suspected electrocution incident at Varnabettu in Paladka Gram Panchayat limits of Moodbidri taluk on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Mercy Mascarenhas, 45, and her son, Shawn Mascarenhas, 18.

Shawn, a student of Holy Rosary College in Moodbidri, was reportedly handling clothes that had been put out to dry when the incident occurred.

Preliminary reports suggest that an electric wire used for drying clothes may have come into contact with a high-voltage power line, possibly causing the wire to become live. The exact circumstances of the incident have not yet been confirmed.

According to reports, Shawn suffered an electric shock while handling the clothes. On noticing her son in distress, Mercy reportedly rushed to his aid. Both are suspected to have suffered electric shocks and died on the spot.

The incident came to light between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., when a worker arrived near Mercy’s house for plantation work.

Moodbidri police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Further details are awaited.
