MRPL Inaugurates Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, Calls for Integrity, Fairness and Accountability
Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) inaugurated Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 on October 26, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, probity, ethical governance and accountability across all spheres of its operations.
Addressing the gathering, MRPL Managing Director Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath emphasised that vigilance is a collective responsibility that must be exercised with fairness, objectivity and justice. Citing the cooperative movement spearheaded by Verghese Kurien and Tribhuvandas Patel through AMUL, he observed that probity flourishes when systems treat people fairly. He reminded employees that the plants they operate, the public funds they manage and the contracts they award are responsibilities entrusted to them in the national interest.
Nandakumar Velayudhan Pillai, Director (Refinery), highlighted that integrity must guide everyday decisions rather than remain confined to formal observances. Drawing on Aesop’s fables, the life of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and the timeless principle of Satyameva Jayate, he observed that honesty may not always bring immediate rewards, but its greatest reward is peace of mind.
Devendra Kumar, Director (Finance), spoke about the evolving approach to governance and financial management, emphasising that integrity and efficiency must go hand in hand. He noted that government reforms and improved systems have shifted the focus from merely preventing financial losses to optimising resources and maximising public value.
Mohammed Ali Shihab A, IAS, Chief Vigilance Officer, described probity as fundamental to nation-building and institutional trust. He reminded employees that every rupee lost through inefficiency or corruption represents a missed opportunity to build a school, road or hospital.
As part of the inaugural programme, messages from the President of India, the Prime Minister of India and the Central Vigilance Commission were read out by N. Anandha Kumar, Executive Director (Refinery); P. Sujith, Executive Director (Projects); and Dr Deepak Prabhakar P, Executive Director (Marketing), respectively.
The Vigilance Pledge was administered in Kannada, Hindi and English by Sathyanarayana HC, General Manager (Maintenance); Suresh K. Rao, General Manager (Operations); and Rajiv HS, General Manager (HSE), respectively. The pledge reaffirmed the collective commitment of employees to ethical conduct, integrity and transparency.
Earlier, Manoj Kumar, Chief General Manager (HR), welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Jayesh, Manager (Vigilance), and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Keshava Kumara, General Manager (Vigilance).
