MU to host Natl Seminar on ‘Art and Cultural Heritage of Coastal Karnataka

MU to host Natl Seminar on ‘Art and Cultural Heritage of Coastal Karnataka

Mangalore University-Konaje in association with Karnataka Lalithkala Academy, and N G Pavanje Chair in Fine Arts will host a two-day National Seminar on “Art and Cultural Heritage of Coastal Karnataka” ; and “Evolution of Modern Art in Coastal Districts of Karnataka, on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 April, 2108 at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work-Mangaluru. Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Prof. Ravishankar Rao, Prof of English at Mangalore University and Convenor of National Seminar said, “Mangalore University-Konaje in association with Karnataka Lalithkala Academy, and N G Pavanje Chair in Fine Arts will host a two-day National Seminar on “Art and Cultural Heritage of Coastal Karnataka”; and “Evolution of Modern Art in Coastal Districts of Karnataka, on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 April, 2108 at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work-Mangaluru. As part of the seminar there will also be an exhibition of Art Works by contemporary artists of Coastal Karnataka”.

He further said, “The Seminar will bring together artists, art scholars and critics, art teachers/students and art lovers on a common platform to discuss the heritage of art in the context of the changing contemporary scenario in the coastal districts of Karnataka. The exhibition by young artists will provide a contemporary focus to the seminar. This Seminar is organized for the first time on the theme of art and culture. The seminar will feature research papers and dialogic conversations by many eminent scholars, who will present research papers on topics as Ancient Art in the Coastal districts; Art in traditional artifacts of Tulu Nadu; Art organizations; Art schools of Coastal districts; art education; and analysis of the artworks of international coastal artists”

“The valedictory of the seminar will be on Saturday April 7 at 4.30 pm {Refer invitation/brochure for more details}. This national seminar is the product of several months of planning and is seen as a befitting tribute to the memory of one of the most eminent painters of DK, N G Sri Pavange {1892-1965}.The N G Pavange Chair in Fine Arts was endowed at Mangalore University by Ms Anasuya Pavange, in memory of her father, through personal grants. She will inaugurate this seminar on Friday. This seminar being held jointly with the Karnataka Lalithkala Academy is an ambitious project of the Chair to coincide with the 20th year of its foundation at Mangalore University” added Prof. Ravishankar.

Other members on the dais during press meet were: Prof. K. Krishna Sharma, Coordinator, NG Pavanje Chair, Mangalore University; Rajendra Kedige, member, Lalithkala Academy; N S Pattar, Prof of Visual Art, Mahalasa College of Art, Mangaluru; Santhosh Andrade, Artist. Ms Priya Naik, PRO, of Mangalore University was also present.
