Kolkata, Jan 7 (IANS) Sonic Multani, better known in his heydays as “Super Sonic Multani” for his blazing cueing skills, was the cynosure of all eyes on the first day of the 4th Pro-Am National Invitation Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club here on Thursday.

Multani stormed the national snookers and billiards circuit in the 1990s to retire equally abruptly at the peak of his career.

He came back to hold the cue in 2015 and this year, his sheer presence was enough to generate a buzz here in the tourney even with the presence of players like Aditya Mehta, Yasin Merchant, Siddharth Parikh and Kamal Chawla (who had lifted the National 6-Red Championship title just a day earlier).

“I burnt out rather fast and so took a rather long break,” Multani said. “Now I am enjoying the game and that’s why I decided to participate in this Pro-Am event for the second successive time.”

Speaking about him, ace cueist Brijesh Damani said: “Sonic’s mesmerizing presence at the table is a treat to watch. His intensity and focus is very inspiring for people like us.”
