After going through a spectrum of syllabi from different countries, what made her land in Kundapur for the crucial SSLC education? It is simply because she is no foreigner, but is Kundapra’s own daughter, Shreya Ganapati Nayak.
There have been thousands of cases of children being forced to study in different cities and towns in the country, only because either parent, the father in particular, being Union government or defense services, PSUs, nationalized banks and the like, on transferable jobs among states.
But perhaps there could be very few cases where a student of grade ten had to study in so many centres in different countries. In a lighter vein, she could be called a ‘multinational’ product. Educationwise, that is.
Shreya’s father Ganapati Nayak, hailing from Kaltur in the taluk, serves as assistant director in the headquarters of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Thimphu, Bhutan. But the family currently lives in Kundapur for convenience. In the earlier years, Shreya had to join her parents wherever Ganapati Nayak was posted as mentioned already.
It is to her credit that frequent changes in schools and relocation of residence did not unsettle her focus in studies nor did they frustrate her. She even picked the languages spoken in the countries where she was temporarily domiciled.
The bonds of the native town may finally have beckoned her. Although she was not proficient in Kannada, her parents, teachers and family members propped her up. In spite of having shuttled among six countries, she hit the 99% mark in the state language is SSLC this year.
Her marks tally in SSLC is as follows:
English 117 out of 125
Kannada 99 out of 100
Hindi 99 out of 100
Maths 95 out of 100
Science 94 out of 100
Social studies 96 out of 100
In the aggregate count, she has bagged 600 out of 625. ‘Shreya’ is a synonym for success, after all.
Asked about the future plans, she said she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps as a Chartered Accountant.
Here’s wishing her a bright future ahead.
