Naming Pumpwell Flyover After Veer Savarkar is an Insult to DK – U T Khader

Mangaluru: “The Pumpwell Flyover should be named after Mahaveer because there was a 26ft Kalasha installed at Pumpwell (Mahaveer) circle earlier donated by the Jain Community and Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade had inaugurated the Kalasha. The principles of Mahaveer is followed by people around the world. The flyover should be named after Mahaveer, and if the flyover is renamed after Veer Savarkar it is an insult to the Dakshina Kannada district”, said the former minister and MLA of Ullal Constituency U T Khader during a press meet held at the Congress Bhavan, Mallikatta here on June 3.

Responding to a journalist when asked about the controversial Veer Savarkar banner placed on the Pumpwell flyover, U T Khader said, “Those who placed the banner on the Pumpwell flyover should be arrested. Even the one who printed the banner should be severely punished since he should be aware of what he is printing. Some miscreants have done this to create a controversy in Mangaluru. The local MLA, MP and District Minister In-charge have to find out those behind it. If they fail to arrest the culprits, it will send a wrong message to the society about their involvement”.

When asked about naming the Yelahanka flyover after Veer Savarkar, U T Khader said, “People in Bengaluru will look into it. We are concerned about the Pumpwell flyover where there was the Mahaveer Circle. We want Mahveer’s name to be given to the Pumpwell flyover. Any flyover or Bridge connects the cities and the people and the flyover should not be named to divide the people. When Indira Gandhi was the prime minister, the government had released Veer Savarkar’s stamps, why is the BJP not using those stamps? We had the Mahaveer Circle at Pumpwell, and now we want the Pumpwell flyover to be named after Mahaveer”, stressed Khader.
