National Level Aeromodelling Competition ‘Aerophilia 2019’ at Sahyadri Concludes

Mangaluru: The 2-day national level aeromodelling event Aerophilia 2019 held at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru came to an amazing close today. Two days Sahyadri College had planes flying in the skies, drones racing against each other, water rockets launching off and bots battling on the ground. There were paper presentations, paper planes, drone race, death race, robo sumo and treasure hunt events today. There were also technical talks by Ashwin L Shetty and Wg. Cdr. Polu Sreedhar.

The chief guest for the valedictory event Cdr Narayanan shared his experience and said that Aerophilia 2019 had been an exciting and heartwarming experience. He also said “There are very few technical colleges in India that conduct aeromodelling events like this. Aerophilia has been growing from strength to strength since the last 2 years and the level of competition between the participants has also increased. This event has given an opportunity for interactions with ISRO and other organizations that are into aerospace”. He also said, “Very soon just like the US, even in India the cost of Air travel may become less than the cost of rail travel”. He thanked the organizers and the Sahyadri College Management for hosting the event so graciously and comfortably and making his stay a memorable one. Bhandary Foundation Trustee Devadas Heggde, Principal, Dr R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Vice-Principal Prof. S S Balakrishna were also present the valedictory Programme.

Vishal Rao of Kinetic Hobbies who has been a constant support for this event from the past four years also spoke on the occasion of the valedictory ceremony and said “Every year when Aerophilia comes, I get excited like a child. It always feels great to be with like-minded people. Especially this year Aerophilia has been the best and I believe that it will be even better the next time”.

Paper Plane: 1st Prize: Hemanth K K – Government PU College, Kombettu, Puttur and 2nd Prize: Naveen Joseph – Jnanodaya Bethany PU College, Nellyady

Rubik’s cube: 1st Prize: Harsha T C – Mahesh PU College, Mangalore

Photography: 1st Prize: Adwith – Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore

Treasure Hunt: 1st Prize: Suhas and Team – Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore

Water Rocket: 1st Prize: Kaushik and Team – SJEC, Mangalore and 2nd Prize: Shreya and Team, Priyadarshini College

Paper Presentation: 1st Prize: Hrishikesh and Team – KLE Institute of Technology, Belgavi and 2nd Prize: Sourav and Team, VIT, Vellore

Robo Sumo: 1st Prize: Kanishk and Team – NMAMIT Nitte, Karkala and 2nd Prize: Sanketh and Team, MITE, Mangalore

Tug of Bots: 1st Prize: Adhavan M and Team – Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Pondicherry and 2nd Prize: K Devaganesh and Team – Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Pondicherry

Death Race: 1st Prize: Veekshith and Team – St. Joseph and 2nd Prize -₹ 2,000 Lalish – MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore

Drone Race: 1st Prize: Ajith Abhinash – Shri Krishna Institute of Technology, Bangalore. 2nd Prize: Vidur and Team – MIT, Manipal and 3rd Prize: Nanda Varman – Shri Krishna Institute of Technology, Bangalore

Aeromodelling: 1st Prize: ₹40,000 – Sovit and team Aero MIT – MIT, Manipal. 2nd Prize: ₹25,000 – Team Skyriders – Shri Devi Institute of Technology, Mangalore and 3rd Prize: ₹12,500 – Team ACS Flyers – ACS College, Bangalore

Joel and Srijan Prasad from Cambridge School, Vignesh from Manipal School and Vishan from Lourdes Central School received special mention as Young Talent of Aerophilia.

Vidur and Team who won 2nd place in the drone racing competition shared his experience and said “It is our 1st time at Aerophilia and we had a very good experience. The entire event was very well coordinated. We thank the organizer for making us feel like home”. Abdul Shameer, the event organizer thanked everyone for making the event a grand success.
