National Seminar on ‘Advances in Research and Development’ at Alva’s AMC

Moodbidri/Mangaluru: AYUSH Medical Education Joint Director, Dr. B.S Shridhara said, ‘Ayurveda is a science of life with a holistic approach to health and personalized medicine. Unfortunately, due to lack of scientific validation in various concepts, this precious gift from our ancestors is trailing. Hence, a clear road map on research in Ayurveda should be our utmost priority for global recognition and acceptance’.

He was speaking after inaugurating on one day national seminar on ‘Advances in Research and Development’ and inauguration of ATMA – Alva’s Traditional Medicine Archives and Research Centre, organized by Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College, at Dr VS Acharya Hall, Vidyagiri campus.

The central government, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Ministry of Ayush is spending huge fund for research activities, but they are not utilized properly due to lack of quality researchers and even applied projects are not up to the mark, he cautioned.

He added and said building hospitals must not be our motto, but we must work on prevention of diseases. The department of Ayush has started Ayush Health and Wellness Centres (AHWCs) for exclusively use alternative systems of medicine.

Academy of Sanskrit Research, Former Director, M. A Lakshmi Thathachar, stressed about the need of literary research in the field of Ayurveda. He stated that there are more than 30 million manuscripts associated to Ayurveda, which are not known to many. He added and said, ‘Ayurveda scholar should be well versed in Sanskrit and also who could recite ‘Charaka Samhita’ and ‘Sustruta Samhita’ (Sanskrit Text on Ayurveda) with ease. But today we are witnessing Ayurveda doctors but not Ayurveda scholars’. He said, there is a dire need of an Indigenous research institution that will do research in an eco friendly, simple, sustainable science and technology.

Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, University of Missouri Medical School, Institute of Green Nano-Technology Director Dr Kattesh V Katti, SDM college Ayurveda Principal Dr G Shrinivas Acharaya, Alva’s Ayurveda Hospital Principal Dr Zenika D’Souza were present among others.
