National Seminar on ‘Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation in Industry, Healthcare & Agriculture’

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Fr Praveen Martis SJ-Principal of St Aloysius College- Mangaluru said, “St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru and National Association for Applications of Radioisotopes and Radiation in Industry (NAARRI), Mumbai in association with Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Navi Mumbai organizing a National Seminar on Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation in Industry, Healthcare and Agriculture, on September 10 and 11, 2018. The seminar is organized by the Department of Physics and is sponsored by Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS) and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt. of India”.

He further said, “The seminar will be inaugurated by Chief Guest, U. T. Khader, Hon’ble Minister for City Corporation and Housing on 10th September 2018 at 9.00 a.m. at Fr L.F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block. S A Bharadwaj, Chairman, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Govt. of India and Dr Pratibha Jolly, Principal, Miranda House, University College for Women, University of Delhi and Member, Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet, Govt. of India, will be the Guests of Honour. Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz S J, Rector, St Aloysius Institutions will preside over the programme. Myself will be present on the occasion. The seminar is open to medical students, medical doctors, research scholars, postgraduate students in Physics, Chemistry and Biotechnology and students of other science stream.

Public Lecture: On the occasion of National Seminar, a public lecture is organized on 11th September 2018 at 5:00 pm in the Eric Mathias Hall on he topic “Public Perceptions about Atomic Energy – Myths Vs Realities”. The lecture will be delivered by S K Malhotra, Raja Ramanna Fellow and Former Head, Public Awareness Division, DAE, Govt of India. All are welcome for the public lecture.

About NAARRI:

The National Association for Applications of Radioisotopes and Radiation in Industry (NAARRI) was founded in 1976, realizing the need for a forum for interaction among industrial users of Radioisotopes and radiation technology. Since then, the association has acted as an effective interface between the Department of atomic Energy and the users of this technology. Over the last four decades, NAARRI has been in the forefront in promoting the peaceful uses of Atomic energy and programmes aimed at promoting applications of radioisotopes and radiation. NAARRI had been organizing training courses for industrial isotope radiography. Management induction programme, programmes aimed at radiation safety objectives and regular workshops, seminars, national and international conferences on subjects of tropical interest.

NAARRI has also undertaken a programme of creating awareness among the General Public, University students and Faculty members to disseminate information on current and potential applications of radioisotopes and radiation and also to dispel fear and apprehension from the minds of the people about radiation.
