New Concrete Road Inaugurated at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte

Mangaluru: In a significant step towards improving infrastructure and enhancing the experience for thousands of devotees, the newly concretized road leading to the Infant Jesus Shrine in Bikarnakatte was officially inaugurated on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by MLC Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, in the presence of MLC Mr. Ivan D’Souza, Congress MP candidate from Mangalore Mr. Padmaraj Poojary, and Fr Stifan Perera, Director of the Infant Jesus Shrine.

Following the inauguration, a brief felicitation program was held at the entrance of the Shrine. Addressing the gathering, MLC Ivan D’Souza recalled the visit of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Shrine, which he described as a holy place that welcomes people from all faiths and backgrounds. He also mentioned the support extended by former Tourism Minister R.V. Deshpande during the previous government for developmental works related to the Shrine and its surroundings.

“The earlier condition of the road posed great difficulty to pilgrims and visitors. This new concrete road will now ensure smooth access and a better experience for all. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed towards the successful completion of this project,” said Mr. D’Souza.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, in his remarks, expressed deep appreciation for the spiritual role the Shrine plays in the lives of the people. “The Infant Jesus Shrine has long stood as a beacon of hope and solace for people from all walks of life. We consider it a privilege to be able to support and serve such a sacred place,” he said. He also lauded Mr. Ivan D’Souza for his committed efforts in implementing development projects within his constituency.

The event witnessed the presence of a host of dignitaries, including Mr. Padmaraj Poojary, MP candidate from Mangalore; Corporator Mr. Naveen D’Souza (Bendore Ward); Corporator Mr. Keshava; former Corporator Mrs. Sabitha Misquith; Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, Superior of St Joseph’s Monastery; Fr Dominic Vas, Parish Priest of Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi; Fr Stifan Perera, Shrine Director; Congress party members, and local well-wishers.
