New Order of Religious Profession Released in New Delhi

New Delhi: A new edition of the Order of Religious Profession was officially released on June 3, 2025, in a solemn function at the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi.

His Excellency Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, handed over the first copy to His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and the Archbishop of Goa and Daman.

The ceremony was attended by Archbishop Peter Machado, Vice President of the CCBI and Archbishop of Bangalore; Archbishop Vincent Aind, Secretary General of the CCBI and Archbishop of Ranchi; Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi, Msgr. Juan Pablo Cerrillos Hernandez, Counsellor of the Nunciature, Bishop Deepak Tauro, Auxiliary Bishop of Delhi; Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI; Rev. Dr. Christopher Vimalraj, Associate Deputy Secretary General, CCBI; Fr. Duming Gonsalves, Administrator, Shanti Sadan, Goa; Fr. Vignan Das; Associate Director, Communio and the staff at the Apostolic Nunciature.

The new ritual reflects the renewed theological and spiritual depth of consecrated life in the light of the Vatican II Council. It offers a liturgically rich and solemn presentation of the Rite of Religious Profession, honouring the Church’s esteem for religious life and consecrated communities.

According to a press note from the CCBI General Secretariat, all dioceses and religious congregations are requested to implement the new ritual with immediate effect.
