Newborn Found Deserted near Kallamundkur, Sent to Puttur Adoption Centre

Moodbidri: Santosh Bhat, of Malige house in Kaikude of Kallamundkur, was taking a walk near his house with his dog on Thursday morning.

He found it odd to observe the dog suddenly escape from his hold and run towards the direction of the Haleneeru bridge lying at the boundary between Kallamundkur and Puttige villages.

He too followed. He was shocked to see a newborn female infant lying on the ground under the bridge with the dog standing next to it. To the child’s good fortune, Bhat reached there in time. It appeared to be about five days old. Ants were seen moving around its face and body.

On hearing the news, local panchayat member Satish Kallamundkur arrived there and informed the police. Women and child development officials Bharati and Nagaratna took custody of the child and shifted it to the community health centre in Moodbidri for first aid and then to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru for advanced attention.

The child was then handed over to an adoption centre in Puttur. Attempts are being made to track down its parents.
