Nigeria pick Le Guen as national football coach

Lagos, July 19 (IANS) Nigeria’s football federation has recommended French coach Paul Le Guen to their executive committee as the new technical adviser for the national men’s team.

Paul Bassey, a member of the technical committee, told reporters after their meeting in Abuja on Monday that the committee also recommended as Le Guen’s assistant the team’s interim coach, Salisu Yusuf, reports Xinhua.

“We also recommended Yusuf’s present assistant and Rangers International FC’s coach Imama Amapakabo as another assistant, and Alloy Agu as the team’s goalkeeper trainer,” he said.

Bassey told reporters that the recommendations were subject to ratification by the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“About a week ago, this committee met and shortlisted three coaches for the post of the Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles,” he added.

“Today, we have made a recommendation to the board that Paul Le Guen be appointed the Technical Adviser,” he said.

“We have also made other recommendations, that Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo be the assistants to Le Guen, while Alloy Agu should serve as goalkeeper trainer,” Bassey told reporters.

“We have also recommended that Bitrus Bewarang be appointed the National Technical Director (NTD) and Nduka Ugbade be returned to the Golden Eaglets as assistant to Manu Garba,” he added.

“Barring agreement on contract terms, emoluments, allowances and entitlements, Le Guen becomes the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles,” he said.
