Notices Issued to 97,706 Voters in Udupi District as Draft Electoral Roll Published
Udupi: As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the draft electoral roll prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Udupi district was published today, Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium in Manipal, she said that out of the 10,63,876 voters listed in the electoral roll as of June 16, 2026, a total of 10,00,545 names have been retained in the draft roll. However, 63,331 voters were not included due to various reasons like absenteeism, migration, death, duplication, and other categories classified as ASDDO.
The Deputy Commissioner said notices are being issued to 97,706 voters whose names appear in the draft electoral roll. Of them, 31,903 voters have been identified under the category of “No Mapping,” indicating a lack of linkage with the previous electoral roll, while 65,803 voters fall under “Logical Discrepancy.”
Explaining the process further, she said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of all 97,706 voters who are to receive notices and serve them from today until August 31. The voters will be required to appear before the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) on the date mentioned in the notice and produce any three of the 11 documents prescribed by the Election Commission.
The notice served by the BLOs will specify the documents required for verification. In Udupi district, nearly 90 percent of the cases marked under Logical Discrepancy involve differences in names, spellings and age, she noted.
The enumeration forms were distributed door-to-door, and the information received from voters was digitised before the draft electoral roll was published today. Claims and objections may be filed from today until September 23. The hearing and disposal of claims and objections will continue until October 22, after which the final electoral roll will be published on October 27, the Deputy Commissioner said.
Swaroopa T.K. said that 63,331 voters have been identified under the ASDDO category in the district. Constituency-wise, the figures are 14,280 in Byndoor, 11,634 in Kundapura, 17,726 in Udupi, 10,034 in Kaup and 9,657 in Karkala.
Among these, 4,145 were found absent, 2,936 had migrated, 21,262 were deceased, 8,374 had duplicate entries, and 189 were classified under other categories. She stated that these were voters who did not participate in the SIR process and did not provide the required information.
The draft electoral roll also includes 5,914 newly added young voters. Taking October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, those who will complete 18 years of age by that date have been included through Form-6.
Of the new young voters, 1,112 are from Byndoor, 991 from Kundapura, 1,103 from Udupi, 1,272 from Kaup and 1,436 from Karkala.
As per Election Commission guidelines, polling stations with more than 1,200 voters have been rationalised. Consequently, 132 new polling stations have been established in Udupi district.
With this, the total number of polling stations in the district has risen from 1,112 to 1,244. Constituency-wise, 48 additional polling stations have been added in Byndoor, 16 in Kundapura, 21 in Udupi, 22 in Kaup and 25 in Karkala.
The Deputy Commissioner urged voters to carefully verify their name, age, gender, address, photograph and polling station details in the draft electoral roll. She said the roll is available for public inspection at the respective BLO and ERO offices, taluk tahsildar offices and the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Swaroopa T.K. explained that during the enumeration stage, cases linked to the previous electoral roll, as well as those where logical discrepancies were detected during verification, were identified. In such cases, the concerned EROs will issue notices in accordance with the rules. She added that in certain circumstances, EROs may also issue notices suo motu.
To ensure smooth verification and hearing procedures, an additional 120 AEROs and Additional AEROs have been appointed. These officers will conduct hearings in the respective Gram Panchayat and urban ward areas.
During the hearing, the concerned voter must personally appear before the ERO and produce the required documents, she said, adding that no other person will be permitted to represent the voter. However, voters may be accompanied by someone if they wish.
The BLOs will extend necessary assistance and guidance throughout the process, and voters may approach them for information. BLOs appointed by recognised political parties can also provide guidance to voters, the Deputy Commissioner added.
