NURTURE 2026: National Paediatric Seminar and Workshop Held at Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College
Mangaluru: The Department of Paediatrics, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, organized NURTURE 2026, a national seminar-cum-workshop on paediatrics, at the Father Muller Seminar Hall on August 8.
The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta, Administrator, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, in the presence of Dr. ESJ Prabhu Kiran, Principal; Dr. Vilma Meera D’Souza, Vice-Principal; Dr. Girish Navada, Medical Superintendent; and resource persons Dr. Preetham Philip Tauro and Dr. Sagar S. Jambagi.
Dr. ESJ Prabhu Kiran welcomed the gathering, while Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta welcomed and honoured the resource persons. The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
In his inaugural address, Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta highlighted the importance of focused, small-group workshops with clearly defined objectives. He also spoke about the significance of the word “Nurture” in the context of paediatric care.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Reshel Noronha, Organizing Secretary and Head of the Department of Paediatrics.
The first academic session was conducted by Dr. Preetham Philip Tauro, MBBS, MD (Paed), DNB, Consultant Paediatrician, Father Muller Medical College, Kankanady. He spoke on “Red Flag Signs in Neonates”, highlighting critical symptoms that need to be monitored in newborns for timely intervention.
The second session was led by Dr. Sagar S. Jambagi, BHMS, MD (Hom Paed), DMS, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, HKE’s Homoeopathic Medical College, Gulbarga. He spoke on “Clinical Tips in Treating Children with Homoeopathy”, stressing the importance of keen clinical observation while treating paediatric patients. He also discussed various materia medica relevant to paediatric cases.
Both academic sessions were well-received and appreciated by the delegates.
The afternoon session featured a hands-on paediatric workshop covering paediatric resuscitation, paediatric airway insertion, nasogastric tube insertion, and intravenous cannulation and fluid calculation.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Preema Reshma Pinto, Prof. Wilma Shalini Noronha, Mrs. Anitha Nancy D’Souza, and Mr. Manoj P.S. from the Father Muller Paediatric Nursing Department. The delegates were divided into teams and rotated through different workstations, spending 30 minutes at each station.
The practical sessions helped enhance the clinical skills of postgraduate students and provided them with hands-on experience in essential paediatric procedures.
The event also featured paper and poster presentations by postgraduate students. The paper presentations were moderated by Dr. Jyoshna Shivaprasad, Professor, Department of Paediatrics, and Dr. Shreyank S. Kotian, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery. The poster presentations were moderated by Dr. Meenu Maria Mathew, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Delegates from various homoeopathic medical colleges across North Karnataka and Kanyakumari participated in NURTURE 2026.
The seminar-cum-workshop provided an enriching academic and skill-based learning experience for paediatric postgraduate students, combining expert sessions with practical training in essential clinical procedures.
