Officials Raid Illegal Sand Extraction Area in Handady, 8 Trucks and 28 boats Seized

Udupi: A team of officials, led by the Assistant commissioner Kundapur Boobalan raided an illegal sand extraction area in Handady near Barkur under the Brahmavar Police Station limits and seized 28 boats and arrested 20 labourers on Wednesday, February 7.

The raid was carried out on Wednesday and the officials from Revenue and Mines and Geology Department who had camped at the site seized the illegally stored sand.

The officials seized 8 trucks, 28 boats used for the extraction of sand and a lorry from the site. A case has been registered under the Mining Act against thirty people for carrying out illegal sand extraction.

The officials also cleared the area of sheds constructed for labourers at the site.

Srikanth, circle inspector, Brahmavar, Madhu, police sub-inspector, Brahmavar police station, Mahadevappa, officials from the Revenue and Mines and Geology Department and other officials took part in the operation.
