Omani Student Duped by Fake Manipal University Agent

Udupi: The Udupi district police have warned foreign students desirous of pursuing further studies in India to be cautious of some persons acting as recruitment agents with the aim to help them gain admission.

According to SP Dr Sanjeev M Patil, Murthad Nadim Said Al Rawahi a student from the Sultanate of Oman has been conned by dubious travel/career agents. On Wednesday November 14, a citizen of Oman Murthad Nadim Said Al Rawahi approached the Manipal University for admission to BCom. He had come to India on a Student visa and had paid USD 6600 as fees. The victim had paid the money to the agent believing that the agent was an official by Manipal University in India. The authorities have come to know that he was duped with a fake letter of admission

The incident seems like Oman also has its share of dubious travel/career agents. Student Murthad Nadim Said Al Rawahi is going to lodge a complaint once he lands in Oman. The Udupi Police will cooperate with the investigations should they find a Local assistance in the fraud committed, he added.
