One child killed, 6 injured as school van crashes into parked truck in Rajasthan’s Banswara

Jaipur:  A tragic road accident claimed the life of a schoolchild and left at least six others injured after a school van rammed into a parked truck in the Thikariya area of Banswara in Rajasthan on Wednesday morning.

The children, residents of Janamedi, Bahubali Colony and the Housing Board area, were on their way to school when the accident occurred.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the van was completely crushed.

Hearing the children’s cries for help, villagers and passersby rushed to the spot, rescued the trapped students and informed the police.

A team from Raja Talab police station reached the scene and shifted all the injured children to the District Hospital with the help of local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Hayan Basaniya, son of Dr Rajendra Basaniya and a resident of the Housing Board area.

Another child from the same family also sustained injuries in the accident.

Hospital officials said several injured students are being treated in the emergency ward, with the condition of some reported to be critical.

Among those seriously injured is Ranjan Nema, son of Rudra Nema and a resident of the Housing Board colony. He has been referred to Udaipur for advanced treatment after his condition worsened.

The accident has left parents and relatives in shock, with anxious family members rushing to the hospital after receiving news of the incident.

Police have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence was involved.

Further details are awaited.

The arrival of several injured children at once triggered scenes of panic at the District Hospital.

Doctors, nurses and emergency staff rushed into action, with some performing CPR on critically injured students while others administered first aid and stabilised the victims before beginning further treatment.
