Palemar Should not Blame Congress for Water Crisis – MLA Bava

Mangaluru: MLA Moideen Bava held a press meet at the MCC Premises here on May 13.

Addressing the mediapersons Moideen Bava said that the Chief minister Siddaramaiah has completed three years. In these three years, he has fulfilled 112 promises mentioned in the election manifesto. CM Siddaramaiah has also sanctioned funds for the development of DK District. In the Mangaluru North constituency, a number of development projects have been undertaken. The CM has sanctioned Rs 150 crore for the development of the Gurupur Hobli.

Bava further said that now the people of DK are facing a severe water crisis. It is because of the 21% less rain in 2015 but the opposition leader is alleging that the present sand lobby is the cause of the water crisis. The former district minister in-charge Palemar giving funny statements to the media for the water crisis shows his lack of knowledge in such matters.

The people of Mangaluru are getting water from the Thumbay dam, every year in December we are closing the gate of the dam, last year on December 26 we had closed the gate. Last year there was 21% less rain compared to previous years. Every year in January, February and March there is at least 100 mm rainfall. This year due to lack of rains we are facing a shortage of water but the former minister alleges that we did not close the Dam gate on time. When he was in power he did not visit the dam nor has he checked the registrar in the office. Without proper evidence he cannot blame us, he said.

Mayor Harinath speaking on the occasion said that the former Mayor Shanker Bhat says, “What is the Mayor doing while Illegal construction work is going on?” I want to ask Shanker Bhat when he was the Mayor what was he doing? Due to lack of rains we are facing a severe water crisis. We have taken all the measures to provide water to the people of Mangaluru. Water will be pumped from May 13 evening. On May 12, there was heavy rain and the water level in the dam has increased.

Former Mayor Sashidhar Hedge, Naveen D’Souza and others were also present.
