Patient Injured After Falling from Fourth Floor of Manipal Hospital
Manipal: An inpatient at Manipal Hospital sustained serious injuries after falling from the fourth floor of the hospital building on Wednesday afternoon.
The injured person has been identified as Rajesh R. Shetty of Thirthahalli. He had reportedly been admitted to the hospital after allegedly attempting suicide by consuming poison and was undergoing treatment in the ICU.
According to preliminary information, Shetty allegedly attempted to get out through a window on the fourth floor when he reportedly lost his balance and fell to the ground, sustaining serious injuries.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
A video purportedly showing the incident has also circulated on social media.
In a Statement KMC Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Avinash Shetty stated that an in-patient at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, forcibly broke open the ward’s safety measures, including the glass window and the protective external façade, and moved onto the façade of the building on Wednesday afternoon, causing panic among patients and visitors. The patient subsequently jumped from the façade and sustained injuries. Hospital security staff reached the spot immediately, rescued the patient and shifted the patient for emergency care.
The patient is stable and continues to be under the care of the hospital’s doctors.
The matter has been intimated to the authorities as per statutory requirements, and the hospital is extending full cooperation. Out of respect for the patient’s privacy, no further details will be shared.
