People should not trust BJP for its double standard in Ganapathi case- Rai

Mangaluru: District minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai held a press meet at the Circuit House here, on July 25.

Addressing the mediapersons, Ramanath Rai said that the BJP and the JD(S) are misleading the people in DySP Kallappa Handibag’s and DySP Ganapathi’s suicide case. “In the Kallappa suicide case, the BJP is mum whereas in DySP Ganapathi’s suicide case, they are targeting the Congress party and have held protests against minister K J George to pressurise the government to drop him from the ministerial post. Even though there was no pressure from the high command for George to resign from the post, he voluntarily resigned from the post to avoid any confusion created by the BJP.”

Rai further said, “In DySP Kallappa suicide case, the BJP has not raised any voice, nor have they held any protests because Bajrang Dal leaders are directly involved in the case. But when DySP Ganapathi committed suicide, the BJP targeted the state government and is demanding a CBI inquiry. Why then are they not demanding a CBI inquiry in the Kallappa suicide case?”

Rai alleged that in the central government, 14 of the BJP ministers have criminal cases booked against them and they are still in power. But in Ganapathi suicide case, the same BJP leaders demanded K J George’s resignation. “This is a double standard by the BJP government. By raising such issues and blaming the Congress government, they are misleading the people and creating confusion in their minds. The Congress government has done a lot of development work in its three years of tenure and the BJP government cannot digest this. The BJP leaders in the state also have criminal cases against them. Why are they are still in power? Why are their cases not handed over to the CBI?” he questioned.

He also said that in the three years of the Congress’ tenure, over 8 cases have been handed over to the CBI. “How many cases has the BJP handed over to the CBI? After Modi came to power, in his own state Dalits have been beaten up. Under the tag of ‘Go-raksha’, atrocities are being committed on the Dalits. Those who do not agree with the principals of BJP are being thrashed, harassed and beaten. The Congress government has worked for the welfare of the poor and the marginalised. People should understand the development works done by the Congress government and not believe in BJP’s double standards.”

Mayor Harinath, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Vinay Kumar Shetty, Mithun Rai and others were also present in the press meet.
