People told to maintain peace during Ganesh Chaturthi, Bakrid

Chikkamagaluru: MLA C T Ravi asked people to celebrate the festivals Ganesh Chaturthi and Bakrid, keeping in mind the peace and harmony of the region.

Addressing the peace committee meeting organised at Kuvempu Kalamandira in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday, he said Ganesh Chaturthi festival should reflect the culture of the nation. Dancing during processions in an inebriated state shall not be entertained.

Mass immersion of Ganesh idols of various layouts will be carried out at a same place on a same day. The idols installed in houses should be immersed on August 27 and those in public places, on September 5, he said.

Superintendent of Police K Annamalai said a single window system will be facilitated so as to obtain permission from Mescom, Fire Service department, Police department and the City Municipal Council (CMC). Permission will be granted to the approved applications, within 24 hours of applying. The SP meanwhile told the organisers to see to that the idol immersion processions are taken out peacefully.

CMC president Kavitha Shekhar said that the flexes of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations could only be put up only at the places identified by the CMC for the purpose.

Also, Santhe Maidan has been identified for the sale of plantain, mango leaves, fruits and flowers. There is no permission to sell these items on roadsides, she said.

Jeevan of Kote Ganesha Sangha requested to grant permission for conducting Rasamanjari programme till 11 pm.

Congress leader Rasool Khan said that permission should be granted four days in advance for the consecration of Ganesh idols in public places. Also, the working condition of CCTV cameras in Mosques and churches should be checked.

PFI leader Chand Pasha requested not to burst firecrackers in front of Mosques during Ganesh idol processions.
