Bremen (Germany), Sep 7 (IANS) Peru’s veteran footballer Claudio Pizzaro has joined his former club SV Werder Bremen for the third time, the German Bundesliga outfit confirmed on Monday.

After a long back and forth Werder Bremen signed the 36-year-old striker, who put pen to paper on a one-year deal that keeps him with the “Green-Whites” until June 2016, reports Xinhua.

It is the third time that Pizzaro slips on a Bremen jersey after 1999 and 2008.

“His qualities speak for itself. Now it is time that we give him the opportunity to get to know his new teammates on the pitch,” Bremen head coach Viktor Skripnik said in a statement.

Skripnik already played as a professional, from 1999 until 2001, together with Pizzaro.

The captain of Peru’s national team is the top-scorer among foreigners in Germany’s football history with 176 goals in 383 appearances overall.

The six-time German champion as well as German Cup winner provided overall 89 goals in 159 games for the Bremen.

“I am pleased to be here again. It will be a challenging task and I hope I can help the team with my experiences,” Pizzaro said.

The 36-year-old played the last three years at Bayern Munich where his contract expired lately. Pizzaro is a prolific striker and crowd pleaser, who gained a number of experiences in different competitions.

The Peruvian made 73 appearances in the European Champions League (21 goals) and 31 appearances in the Europa League (21 goals) as well as 49 games in the German Cup (28 goals).

Moreover, he has been part of the Peruvian squad since 1999, scoring 20 goals in 81 matches.
