Police Arrest Couple in ATM Theft Case, Recover Rs 2.2 Lakh

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru South Police arrested a couple from Tamil Nadu for withdrawing money in lakhs from a stolen ATM card on July 4.

The arrested have been identified as Fathima (28) and Selvam (31) both from Vellore Tamil Nadu.

According to police, Fathima was working as a maid in the house of Joyce at Falnir. On April 14, 2017 Fathima left her job and went back. Joyce was alone at home and after Fathima left the job, Joyce travelled abroad. Before leaving the job Fathima had allegedly stolen the ATM card of Joyce and a diary containing the password.

On June 26, when Joyce returned to Mangaluru she was shocked to see the SMSs on her mobile of the cash withdrawals from her account during her absence in town. A total amount Rs 3,59,000 was withdrawn from her account in 12 transactions between May 16 to June 26. Joyce immediately filed a complaint with the police.

Based on the complaint the Mangaluru South Police traced the culprits and recovered cash of Rs 2.2 lakh and a 20 gram of gold chain from their possession.

The operation was carried out under the able leadership of Pandeshwar Police Inspector Beliappa and his team.
