Police Arrest KRV and KKV members trying to wave Black Flags at MP Shobha

Udupi: The district police on Thursday, October 5, foiled an attempt by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Karnataka Karmika Vedike to wave black flags at the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje for the bad condition of the Road and huge potholes on Malpe-Thirthahalli NH 169-A, during her visit to Udupi.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje’s programme was scheduled in the Daina Hotel at 11:00 am. The members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Karnataka Karmika Vedike planned to wave black flags while she arrived at the venue.

The district police deployed Hundreds of Police and foiled their attempt to wave black flags. 6-7 activists including Ansar Ahamed and Ravi Shetty of Both the associations were stopped from entering the venue and arrested.

The activists shouted slogans against Shobha Karandlaje and said that she was showing negligence on the development work in Udupi constituency.

An 18-month-old child died after being thrown out of the two-wheeler when it hit a huge pothole in Manipal on Monday. The deceased, Chirag, was seated on his mother Pramoda’s lap while his father Umesh Poojary was riding the vehicle. The family was on their way to Hiriyadka from Manipal. Chirag fell from the bike when it hit a huge pothole and died on the spot. Chirag had suffered severe head injuries while his parents escaped with minor injuries.

The accident triggered protests from angry residents of the area who blamed the authorities for the sorry state of the road. Though the road is part of the national highway, it is too narrow and is dotted with numerous potholes.

Though the road was upgraded into a national highway a few years ago, the widening work is yet to begin. Many organisations staged protests, demanding that the road is repaired. But the authorities concerned have always come up with some excuses.
