Police Commissioner Dr Harsha Issues Guidelines for New Year 2020 Celebrations

Mangaluru: Police commissioner Dr Harsha in a video message has strictly instructed the people of Mangaluru Commissionerate to finish the New Year Celebration by 12:05 am.

In his video message, Dr Harsha said, “Hotels and organizations organizing New Year Celebrations should obtain permission from the police department with a written application. The celebrations should finish by midnight 12:05 hrs, 15 minutes will be given for the gathering to vacate. If hotels and organizations are serving liquor, they should obtain permission from the Excise department”.

Dr Harsha also said, “Those who are collecting money from the public to organize any programmes should obtain permission from the fire department for the safety of the building and an ambulance should be arranged. Liquor can be served till 11:00 pm, if the organizers want to serve liquor after 11:00 pm, they should obtain permission from the excise department. The police department will give permission to celebrate the new year till 00.05 hrs.”

Dr Harsha also said, “The safety of women is very important. If anyone harasses women for any reason, strict action will be taken against them. Additional women police will be deployed for the safety of women. Organizers should inform the party revellers to behave well with women. Noise pollution should be avoided. The organizers should install CCTV cameras and co-operate with the police if CCTV footage is required”.

Action will be taken under the Excise act against bars or liquor shops for any lax in following if there are any problems in the guidelines. Liquor should not be served to those below 18 years of age. Those below 18 years should be accompanied by their parents, minor children should not be allowed to take part in such programmes. Girls/women should not be abused or harassed during any of the programmes. If anyone misbehaves in public places, parks, railway stations or sports grounds, strict action will be taken against them.

While concluding Dr Harsha advised and said, “New year comes every year, for a day of happiness don’t put yourself or your children at risk or create problems to others. Do not drink and drive. Do not burst firecrackers or trouble others. I wish everyone a very happy new year 2020”.
