Police Save Newly Wed Couple from Goons

Udupi: The intervention of Police saved the marriage of Gangadhar and Yellamma, who eloped from Bagalkote and tied the knot at Padubidri.

According to police, Gangadhar and Yellamma were in love, but Yellamma’s parents opposed the relationship. So Yellamma eloped with Gangadhar and were living in Padubidri where they got married at the sub-registrars office.

Yellamma’s mother called her and said that she would come to Udupi to meet and wish the newly wedded couple. Accordingly, Gangadhar and Yellamma went to Udupi to meet Yellamma’s mother. But to their surprise, Yellamma’s mother who was accompanied by a group of 8 men forcibly tried to separate Yellamma from Gangadhar. There was a commotion and exchange of words between Gangadhar and Yellamma’s relatives. But as the situation was going out of control, the police reached the spot and stopped the group from forcibly taking Yellamma away from Gangadhar since both were of legal age to decide about their future and marriage.

Later Gangadhar and Yellamma went back to Padubidri happily.
