Spread the love

Prescilla Cynthia (Mom) and her Daughter Alisha Maria Aranha are the First Place Winners in the Mother-Daughter Look-Alike Contest organized by Mangalorean.com and Ideal’s Ice Cream. The second place was won by Lavina (mom) and Almirah Fernandes (daughter); and Third Place won by Geetha (Mom) and Sanjana Hans (Daughter)- all three winners hailing from Mangaluru.

Mangaluru: Did people mistake you and your daughter for sisters? Did you frequently hear “She looks exactly like you!”? Did strangers comment on the striking resemblance between you and your mini-me, etc etc- all these and much more comments came to a final end when the final decision were made by the judges to pick the three winners among the four hundred plus entries that we received in our unique Mother-Daughter Look-Alike contest, that was organized as part of Mother’s Day, in association with Ideal’s Ice Cream.

IInd Place Winner: Lavina &  Almirah Aranha

IIIrd place winner: Geetha & Sanjana Hans

The Mothers and Daughters who entered our Mother-Daughter Look-Alike contest shared more than looks. They shared many of the same interests, and they just plain like hanged out with each other. We were surprised to receive a great response to the contest, where we and the judges have a tough time to narrowed the entries down to our top 25 finalists. And among these 25 finalists, three were chosen as winners. The amazing twenty-five finalists sure did make picking a winner tough on the panel of judges. They may look the same in the face, but once they added matching shirts, pants, accessories, make-up, it really did become a mirror image! Anyways, finally it was all over, and the final three winners were picked.

The mother and daughter bond influences our lives in ways we may not even realize. It is said that the relationship between a woman and her mother is so powerful, it affects everything from her health and self-esteem to all her other relationships. The mother-daughter relationship is the most powerful bond in the world, for better or for worse. It sets the stage for all other relationships. No other childhood experience is as compelling as a young girl’s relationship with her mother. Each of us takes in at a cellular level how our mother feels about being female, what she believes about her body, how she takes care of her health, and what she believes is possible in life. Mother-daughter relationships are complex and diverse. Some mothers and daughters are best friends. Others talk once a week. Some see each other weekly; others live in different states or countries. Some spar regularly. Some avoid conflict. Others talk through everything. And undoubtedly, there’s a hint of all these things in most relationships. And this contest which was held to commemorate “Mother’s Day 2016” which was today, Sunday 8 May was a unique part of Mother’s Day celebrations.

This is the third year in a row, that Mangalorean.com is holding this unique ‘Mother/Daughter Look-Alike Contest 2016′ so that mothers and daughters could share their resemblance between them. And we are extremely happy that so many entries poured in from Western countries, Gulf , India and off course, locally- and everyone was happy to enter the contest more than anticipating to win the prizes. Everyone felt that this contest was a perfect thing that we did to mark Mother’s Day. The prize awarding ceremony was held at Ideal’s Cafe-Mangaluru on Sunday 8 May 2016 at 9 am, where Mukund Kamath-Managing Partner of Ideal Cream and his mother Jaya Kamath were the chief guests and Violet Pereira- Proprietor/Editor-in-Chief of Mangalorean.com presided over the function. The welcome address and introduction of the guests was done by Yours Truly.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukund Kamath-Managing Partner of Ideal’s Ice Cream said, “It’s an “ideal” thing to organize this Mother-Daughter Look-Alike by Mangalorean.com which encourages moms. Although only three won the prizes, and many others lost, but the most important thing…is not winning but taking part. It is participation that counts. If we don’t participate/compete in life, we will likely become complacent and the world will not move forward. Competition like these inspires people to do better and create new things. We at the Ideal family is very much pleased to be associated with such kind of projects organized by mangalorean.com, and will continue to support them in their future projects”.

The winners in the Mother-Daughter Look- Alike contest are: Prescilla (Mom) and Alisha Aranha (Daughter) -Ist Place); Lavina (Mom) and Almirah Fernandes (Daughter) -II nd place ; and Geetha (Mom) and Sanjana Hans (Daughter) -III rd place- they were all awarded trophies and gift vouchers by the chief guests. After accepting the prize, Alisha said, “Daughters are life and light of a mother. The relationship between me and my mother looks simple but it isn’t.. it is indeed complex. My mother always says that when I was born it was the most happiest day of her life and today she is also proud of her little girl who is grown up to be a lovely pretty teenager just like her looks. She says that I am a gift to her and to our family. I love my mom for all that she has done and I promise to be her best daughter”.

Almirah sharing her thoughts said, “Our relationship is more like “Best Friends”. We share our secrets, Joys, Sorrows, Excitement…Almost everything you can possibly think about with each other. We also fight like sisters sometimes…but at the end of the day, we love each other…We are like sisters they say…who think and do same things at the same time.We say things together..we have similar interests…Like Dancing, Playing, Sports, music etc. We hang out a lot..like we go shopping.Movies..Parties..Long Drives etc ..We are like two parts of ‘The Same Person’…I am the younger version of my mother…We may look all dressed up and Girly. But we are tomboys…My mother is no less than a Man..because there is nothing that she cannot do. My Mom is a Super Woman. I love my mom dearly”.

Sanjana accepting the prize said, “The mother-daughter relationship is the most powerful bond in the world, for better or for worse. It sets the stage for all other relationships. The relationship between myself and my mother is probably both the most fruitful and the most fraught a woman ever has. It’s the source of the deepest love and sometimes deepest anger, we ever experience. I feel proud of my mom who has given me so much happiness and joy. It means very special to me and my mom, to win this prize and also share our happiness with other daughters and mothers at this prize distribution ceremony. What better way to celebrate this day with my mom than to win a prize together.. This would be memorable for both of us. Thank You, Mangalorean.com for this unique contest and making our day a beautiful and memorable one “.

Apart from Mother-Daughter Look-Alike contest, we also had a story writing contest on “Mother-Daughter Relationship” where we received quite a few entries, in which Divya D’Souza (wrote about her relationship with her daughters, Sasha, and Leisha) won the first place, while P. Adithi A. Bhandarkar (wrote about her relationship with her daughter, P Anagha A Bhandarkar) bagged the second place. Everyone was happy to be at Ideal’s Cafe, and everyone went home happy after a sumptuous breakfast and the famous mini “Gadbud” treated to us all by Mukund Kamath. And we all thanked him with a jingle, “I Scream, You scream, We all scream for Ideal’s Ice Cream”.

In conclusion, I would like to thank the five judges who took time in selecting the winners.
