Prof Clement D’souza Honoured for Pioneering Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in DK

Mangaluru: On the outset let’s learn about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)-which is a pseudo-scientific approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States in the 1970’s. NLP’s creators claim there is a connection between neurological processes (neuro-), language (linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (programming), and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. Bandler and Grinder also claim that NLP methodology can “model” the skills of exceptional people, allowing anyone to acquire those skills. They claim as well that, often in a single session, NLP can treat problems such as phobias, depression, tic disorders, psychosomatic illnesses, near-sightedness, allergy, common cold, and learning disorders. NLP has been adopted by some hypnotherapists and also by companies that run seminars marketed as leadership training to businesses and government agencies. NLP offers tools you need and the platform to transform your life and help others to do the same.

And locally we have, Prof.Clement D’Souza, a vibrant native of Dakshina Kannada, who in his 73 years, has served nearly 34 years as a Professor of Economics at St.Agnes College, Bendore-Mangaluru, and before he could retire he chose to pursue NLP among other learning. And in a span of 15 years he has conducted over a 100 NLP Training at Mumbai, Goa, Mangaluru, and in different parts of Kerala, Ahmedabad, and many other places parts in India. Apart from India he has been invited to places in the Arabian Gulf regions for doing therapies with lay people, priests, nuns, religious, and medical doctors too. And for the great work that he has been doing, and for his tremendous achievement at this golden ripe age- colleagues, friends and well-wishers felicitated/honoured Prof Clement D’souza on Sunday, 16 February 2020 at 6 pm at the residence of Social Worker, Ms Sabrina Hougaard in Falnir, Mangaluru.

On the occasion, Prof Clement D’souza was felicitated with a shawl. plaque, memento and fruit basket by Jesper Hougaard-a Entrepreneur and Psycho Analyst; Ms Mary Golstein from United Kingdom- a Transactional Analysis Trainer; Richard Almeida from Mumbai- NLP Master Practitioner; Dr Charles Crasto from Mumbai- Psycho Therapist/NLP Master Practitioner; and Krish Shreenath from Chennai- NLP Trainer/ Pro Transformation Specialist- they all after felicitating Prof D’souza spoke a few words complimenting the good work that Prof Clement has been doing pertaining to NLP.

Addressing the audience, Prof Clement D’souza said, “I am overwhelmed by the kind gesture shown towards me by honouring me for my service and efforts put into NLP training. Neuro linguistic programming (NLP) is an arts and science of how people can change their lives. It is a behavioral science and technology. It has its roots in real-life behavior. Hence it is highly pragmatic, not just theory and research. In simple words, it is a set of principles, attitudes, and techniques, which will guide people how to eliminate undesirable behaviors and adopt new purposeful behaviors that will give them the ability to enjoy physical, mental, and emotional states of well-being. It is about how people become successful in what they do how they achieve the results they want and improve the quality of life. NLP deals with the “structure of human subjective experience.”

“The three components Involved in human experience are neurology, language, and programming. NLP studies how we organize our thoughts (neuro), what meaning we give to our thoughts that produce our emotions (linguistics) and how these two together produce our behaviour (programming), both conscious and unconscious. Medical science acknowledges the fact that nearly 70 to 80 percent of all diseases (dis-ease) are psychosomatic in nature. Hence, in most cases, we change the internal representation, map, mental software, or structure of experience. With NLP you can relieve your phobias, traumas, change long habits and unwanted feelings, resolve inner conflicts, create inner positive feelings and build new beliefs. By changing or upgrading the qualities or components of this structure (mental software), you can get the results you need. I have cured many people with various symptoms through the techniques of NLP. No doubt, NLP works ” added Prof Clement.

After his speech, he asked if anyone in the audience had severe headache/migraine, and that he would cure it within two minutes. But no one came forward- seemed like everyone in the audience was healthy and fit, with no headaches, too! The progarmme was compered by Richard Almeida, and hospitality/arrangements were made by Ms Sabrina Hougaard.
