Udupi: In response to the arrest of social activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. has enacted prohibitory orders within a 500-meter radius of the Brahmavar Police Station. The restrictions are effective from 1:00 PM on August 21 to 1:00 PM on August 22, 2025. The measure is intended to maintain peace and prevent potential disruptions to law and order in the region.
The arrest of Timarodi, who has been described by officials as an active Hindu activist and social campaigner, was made by Brahmavar Police in connection with Crime No. 177/2025. He was apprehended in Ujire and transported to the Brahmavar Police Station for investigative procedures.
Given the sensitive nature of the situation, the Udupi Superintendent of Police submitted a formal report recommending the implementation of prohibitory measures under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. This recommendation underscored the perceived need to proactively manage any potential escalation of tensions or public disorder.
Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K., acting in her capacity as District Magistrate, carefully considered the prevailing circumstances and the potential for unrest. Consequently, she issued the order as a precautionary measure. The decision reflects an effort to ensure the safety and security of the public and to uphold law and order within the district. The prohibitory orders are designed to prevent gatherings, demonstrations, or any activities that could potentially incite violence or disturbance in the immediate vicinity of the Brahmavar Police Station.
