Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 till Sunday Midnight in the View of Tipu Jayanti

Mangaluru: In view of Tipu Jayanti on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil on Friday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code across Dakshina Kannada from 6 p.m. on Friday till midnight on Sunday.

In his order, DC Senthil has said that no public meetings, processions and jathas will be allowed during the period. There will be a ban on movement of people in groups that might lead to disturbance of law and order. None will be allowed to carry weapons. There will be a bar on raising slogans that would incite communal passion. The order will not affect the day-to-day functions of the people. This will not apply to private events, including marriage and birthday parties, the order said.

DC Senthil passed the order following reports from Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh and Superintendent of Police B. Ravikanthe Gowda apprehending disturbance of peace on Saturday. Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the city and district police to ensure peaceful conduct of the Jayanti at the auditorium of the Zilla Panchayat at 10.30 a.m.

Police Commissioner Suresh said that adequate number of police personnel have been posted outside the venue of the function. Police personnel will be deployed in several sensitive areas. SP Ravikanthe Gowda said that police pickets and barricades will be in place in different areas in the district.

The two officers said that those likely to cause trouble were called to the jurisdictional police stations and warned. All Police Inspectors and Deputy Superintendents of Police will be on duty. No organizations have so far given a call for protest, rally or procession, the officers said.
