Protesters Demand Exemption of Toll for Locals Vehicles till Mulki at Hejamadi Toll Gate

Udupi: Mulki Nagariaka Samithi in association with Hejamadi Toll Gate and Rashtriya Heddari Horata Samithi held a protest against the unscientific road works and toll gate problem at Hejamadi on January 2.

Addressing the protesters Sunil Alva president of Mulki Town Panchayat said that locals vehicles are exempted from toll across the nation and the same should be followed at the Hejamadi toll gate. The peoples’ representatives are not supporting our demand. If the Navyug Company fails to exempt local vehicles from paying the toll till Mulki we will hold a huge protest. After many protests in Sastan the Navyug company agreed to exempt local vehicles within a distance of 5 km from paying the toll. The Company should announce their decision within three days if not we will definitely gherao the toll gate, he warned.

The protesters demanded a systematic service road on the NH stretch. At Sastan and various other places, work is still not complete and the service roads have not been fully constructed from Padubidri to Hejamadi.

Later the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and the District minister in-charge through the revenue officer.

Leaders Gulam Mohammed, Shekar Hejamadi, Madhu Acharya, Ansar Ahammed, Prathap Shetty, Vishwas Ameen and others were present.
