New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) Filmmaker Vikas Bahl says his National Award winning film “Queen” belongs to everyone, who can relate to the story of Rani.

“I don’t think it (the film) belongs to me anymore. I talk about it as if someone else made it. It is because everyone feels that it is their,” Bahl said after receiving the honour on Sunday.

Produced by Phantom Films and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the film narrates a story of an inspirational girl, who embarks on her honeymoon alone after her prospective husband backs off. The director grabbed the honour in the Best Hindi film category.

Vikramaditya Motwane and Bahl took the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan.

The film has been lauded for showing self-discovery of a simple girl, played by actress Kangana Ranaut, from being meek to finding confidence to look ahead of marriage.

But Bahl points that he never intended to make a women-centric film and it happened during the process of its filming.

“I never wanted to make a women-centric film. That just happened. I was just making a happy journey film and the transition happened in between,” he said.

“Queen” turned out to be a bumper hit at the box office and garnered positive reviews from critics as well. The director notes that commercial success is an important aspect in filmmaking business.

“Commercial success is very important. We make films for people to watch, but money is also very important,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bahl is gearing up to dole out another fun film through his next venture “Shandaar” with Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor.

“I can’t talk much about the film at present. But will be able to share more insight about the film in next two months,” he said.
