Rahul Gandhi sets political pitch for Indore visit, attacks MP government
Indore: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday set the political pitch for his upcoming Madhya Pradesh visit by launching a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government, accusing it of failing to address problems faced by tribal communities, children, students and other vulnerable sections.
Two days before his scheduled visit to Indore to address the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, Rahul Gandhi cited the reported deaths of more than 30 tribal children in Balaghat to question the state government’s handling of healthcare and basic services.
“In Balaghat, more than 30 tribal children have lost their lives due to illness, malnutrition and lack of basic healthcare facilities. The level of apathy is such that while these innocent lives were being lost, action remained sluggish and the state government slumbered,” the LoP said in a social media post.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the situation reflected wider shortcomings in the state’s public health system, referring to malnutrition, lack of clean drinking water and inadequate healthcare facilities.
He also cited incidents involving adulterated medicines and illicit liquor while accusing the state government of failing to protect ordinary people.
Taking a direct swipe at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Rahul Gandhi said, ” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (Mohan Yadav), if you can spare a moment from lighting lamps and celebrating festivities, please take a look at the ground reality in the state.”
The Congress leader said he was in Indore and gathering feedback from students, youth and common citizens ahead of his interaction with them.
He also targeted the state government’s record on education, alleging that the sector was in a severely deteriorated condition and that students and young people were facing serious difficulties.
“Students, children, the poor, Dalits, tribals, the backward classes, or women—every section of society is suffering; no one is happy,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the Madhya Pradesh government was “the most corrupt and poorly governed administration in India”.
The attack comes as the state government highlights its welfare and development initiatives and the Madhya Pradesh BJP steps up political activities.
