Rajasthani woman’s abduction: 3 arrested, one woman critical, says Bengaluru DCP
Bengaluru: Three persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 21-year-old married woman from her residence in Agrahara Dasarahalli, while police are investigating the involvement of a fourth person, DCP West Bengaluru, Yathish N. said on Thursday.
Addressing the media, Yathish said the woman and her husband had married earlier and came to Bengaluru after their families opposed their love marriage. The couple had settled in the city, where the woman’s husband was running an electrical shop.
On Wednesday evening, the woman was alone at home while her husband had gone to work. Around 7.30 p.m., three persons allegedly arrived in a car, went to her second-floor residence, dragged her out and forcibly took her away in the vehicle.
“When local residents questioned them and tried to rescue the woman, they threatened them and took her away,” Yathish said.
After receiving information about the incident, police began tracking the vehicle. The car was moving through the Govindarajanagar and Vijayanagar areas when local residents followed it.
During the escape, the vehicle allegedly hit six pedestrians, leaving them injured. One woman sustained critical injuries, while the remaining injured persons suffered minor injuries, the DCP said. Police are also gathering information about the damage caused to other vehicles.
The chase ended in Vijayanagar when local residents managed to stop the vehicle and catch the accused persons. They were subsequently handed over to the police.
“We have arrested three accused persons. We have received information about a fourth accused and are verifying the details,” Yathish said.
According to local residents, four persons had arrived in the car and forcibly took the woman away. They then followed the vehicle, during which the car allegedly hit a woman and a child.
Police have registered a case at Magadi Road police station and are conducting further investigation.
The house owner Mahadeva said the accused had allegedly come to the area through a known person while arranging a house on rent. They had reportedly told the house owner that their family members would be arriving from Rajasthan to stay there.
The house owner further told police that the persons had arrived at the house three to four days ago and had said that their sister would be coming from Rajasthan to tie Rakhi. The owner said that the rental agreement had not yet been executed and that they were in the process of completing it.
Police are verifying whether three or four persons were present in the car at the time of the alleged kidnapping and are investigating the circumstances behind the incident.
The parents of the 21-year-old woman allegedly gave a supari to a group of persons to kidnap their daughter, who had married against the family’s wishes and was settled in Bengaluru, police said.
Further investigation is underway.
