Rama Laxmana Jodukere Kambala ‘2nd Mluru Kambalotsava’ to Kick Off on 13 Jan at Goldfinch City

Mangaluru: After launching the successful maiden Kambalotsava last year, the Rama Laxmana Jodukere Kambala organizing team members are all geared up and excited to organize the Second popular rural sport, even though members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have filed a case against Kambala sport, alleging that the organizers are cruel to the innocent animals through this sport.

Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Hotel Goldfinch, Mangaluru on Thursday, 3 December, the main man behind this venture Capt Brijesh Chowta said that the Rama Laxmana Jodukere Kambala will kick off on 13 January 2019 at the specially created
slushy field of Goldfinch City, Bangrakuluru-Mangaluru, near to Kulur.

Capt Brijesh Chowta said, “We are happy to note that after the successful First Kambala held last year, this year the preparations are going on in full swing for Rama-Laxmana Jodukere Kambala at Goldfinch City. A 100 metre track at the slush field has been prepared
and is ready for the run. Kambala will be held in different categories such as Hagga and Negilu (senior) section, Adda Halaga, Hagga and Negilu (junior). The winners of senior and junior categories will be awarded one sovereign and half a sovereign of gold respectively and the winners of Hagga and Negilu (senior) will be awarded two sovereigns of gold. We have received various entries from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi for this event. People should know that Kambala is a long cherished event organised in the coastal belt and therefore we need to preserve and popularize the sport. There is no harm done to the animals in this sport, as wrongly publicized by animal lovers activists”

The Kambala will be inaugurated on 13 January at 9.30 am by K Chitharanjan-President of Shri Brahma Baidarkala Garodi Kankanady-Mangaluru along with MCC Mayor Bhasker K; Ex-MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik; Dr Shantharam Shetty- Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University; among many other dignitaries. For the evening programme on the same day, K Prakash Shetty-CMD of MRG Group (including Goldfinch City) will be chief guest, and guests of honor will be Ex-Chief Minister S Yediyurappa; Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karadhlaje; MLA Kota Srinivas Poojary; District In-Charge Minister U T Khader among many others will grace the occasion.

The Kambala event will go until Monday 14 January and the prize distribution is scheduled for 8 am. Latest method of judging and equipment will be used during this event to avoid any controversies.

MLA Umanath Kotian a ardent Kambala fan also spoke on the occasion, and has requested the public to support this coastal traditional sport and make it a success this year too.

Prasad Shetty- Vice President of Hotel Goldfinch, Mangaluru; Nithin Shetty Agari- Working President, Sujith Prathap-General Secretary, Sachin Shetty-Chief Organizer, Joylus D’souza- Vice President respectively of Mangaluru Kambala Samithi, were among others present during the press meet.
