Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan Continues with November Cleanliness Drive
Mangaluru: The Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan continued its efforts in November with a focus on maintaining cleanliness and restoring public spaces. The month’s drive commenced with a special emphasis on the wall murals adorning the compound walls of Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru.
The initiative was formally inaugurated by C. M. G. Gangadhar Shastri, a senior advocate from Mumbai, and Manjunath Kamath, Principal of Trisha College. Both dignitaries signaled the commencement of the drive by waving a green flag.
In his address, Gangadhar Shastri lauded the Ramakrishna Mission for its sustained efforts. “The Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan is an inspiring and exemplary program for society,” he stated. “It beautifully blends devotion, discipline, and dedication, encouraging citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings. Such sustained cleanliness efforts by Ramakrishna Mission not only transform public spaces but also purify minds, fostering civic pride and moral awakening. This noble initiative truly reflects the spirit of national service envisioned by Swami Vivekananda.”
Principal Manjunath Kamath echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in his institution’s involvement. “It is a matter of pride for our institution to be part of the nation-building service activities undertaken by Ramakrishna Math,” he affirmed. “Trisha Educational Institution will continue to participate in such noble service initiatives in the future as well.”
The cleanliness drive involved several coordinated teams focusing on different areas. Under the leadership of senior volunteer Kamalaksha Pai, a dedicated team comprising Damodar Bhat, Sukumar Saliyan, Aniruddha Nayak, Ganapathi Nayak, Vitthal Prabhu, Ravindra Kamath, and Nagesh undertook the task of cleaning the dividers around Hampankatta Circle. The team diligently removed accumulated waste, plastic, and other debris, contributing to a cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing environment.
Another team, guided by Souraj Mangaluru and Yogeesh Karyatadka, concentrated on the restoration of the wall murals at Wenlock Hospital. Volunteers, including Subbaiya, Ramesh Pai, and students from Trisha College, meticulously cleaned the moss-covered murals using soap water, brushes, and sponges, successfully restoring their original luster.
Further enhancing the cleanliness efforts, Uday Kumar Padil and Gopal Krishna Bhat utilized a water tanker to thoroughly wash the designated area. They also removed debris and discarded sticks from the footpaths, ensuring a completely clean and safe pedestrian environment.
Raghavendra and Vijesh Devadiga served as the coordinators for the day’s comprehensive program, ensuring the smooth execution of all activities. The Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more civic-minded community.
