Remember the Sacrifices of Earlier Generations – Minister U.T. Khader during Independence Day celebrations
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader on Saturday urged the present generation to remember the immense sacrifices made by earlier generations in the freedom struggle and to work towards taking India to greater heights on the global stage.
Speaking after hoisting the National Flag at the Independence Day celebration held at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru, Khader said Independence Day was not merely a day of celebration, but also a solemn occasion to renew the nation’s commitment to preserving freedom and strengthening democracy.
He said the struggle for India’s independence was shaped by the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of freedom fighters and leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh and Subhas Chandra Bose. Their contributions, he noted, laid the foundation for a free and sovereign India.
“Despite our diverse languages, cultures and religions, Indianness has always united us. We must pledge to uphold communal harmony, peace and the unity of the nation,” Khader said, stressing the importance of social harmony and national integration.
The minister also highlighted the developmental initiatives the government is implementing in Dakshina Kannada district. He said the Gruha Lakshmi scheme has extended Rs 2,001 crore to 3.82 lakh women in the district, while 7,542 young men and women have received Rs 21 crore under the Yuva Nidhi scheme.
He further stated that 5.52 lakh beneficiaries have availed benefits under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, and the Shakti scheme has benefited 14 crore women. According to him, the government has prioritized healthcare, electricity, drinking water and infrastructure development in the district.
Khader said underground electricity cabling works are currently underway in Mangaluru and Ullal as part of efforts to modernise urban infrastructure. He added that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug networks and anti-social elements.
The Independence Day function was attended by MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, Legislative Council members Ivan D’Souza and S.L. Bhoje Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., along with elected representatives, chairpersons of various corporations and boards, and senior officials.
