From its foundation on 28 December 1885 by A.O. Hume, a retired British officer, until the time India gained its independence on 15 August 1947, the Indian National Congress was the central and defining influence of the long Indian Independence Movement. And to mark the 136th Anniversary of Congress Foundation Day and also to celebrate the 50th Birthday of INTUC State President Rakesh Malli, a Blood Donation camp and Rice Distribution programme was organized at Town Hall, Mangaluru on Monday, 28 December 2020 at 11 am.
The progarmme was graced by former Congress party ministers Ramanath Rai,Viajy Kumar Sorake, former MLA Moideen Bawa, former MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Puneeth Shetty-INTUC youth wing President; former MCC Mayor Kavita Sanil, Congress leader Kallige Tharanath Shetty, among many other Congress Party and INTUC leaders – and they all joined together in inaugurating the programme by lighting the lamp, and Rakesh Malli cut the creamy and delicious birthday cake to celebrate his 50th birthday. On the occasion Sudhakar Rai from Sullia for donating blood 112 times since 1978; Covid Warrior 2020 Muneer Bava and Social Worker doing immense community service in Ganjimatta area, Mr Mutha, were felicitated.
Speaking on the occasion, former state minister Vijay Kumar Sorake said” This is a great programme initiated by Rakesh Malli on his 50th birthday by organizing a Blood Donation camp and rice distribution to the poor. BJP members always question us what Congress has done in 70 plus years, but I want to ask them what they have done in the last six years, other than making fake promises. Our former Congress PM’s have done way more than what PM Modi has done. He has also put the farmers in misery, and they are suffering for the last few days protesting in New Delhi for justice. Congress might have lost now, but that’s not the end, we will fight back and rise again to lead our Country. The party leaders and workers will unite in fighting dictatorship and protecting the country’s democracy, Constitution and the countrymen, while at present the country is going through difficult times as prevailing before independence”.
Sudhakar Rai from Sullia felicitated for donating Blood 112 times since 1978
Former minister Ramanath Rai said, “If you look at it, the present Narendar Modi’s ruling of the country is like British rule, where we all suffered. He has been making only promises but nothing is materialized. Congress party was launched as part of a “jan andolan” (people’s movement) during the freedom struggle and has seen times when atrocities were committed on its leaders and workers. But Congressmen have not fallen behind in achieving their goals of getting India’s freedom and in the service of the country, despite taking lathis, going to jail and giving their supreme sacrifices, and this grand old party has helped lay the country’s strong foundations”.
“Today, once again the circumstances are similar to those existing before independence. The rights of people are being crushed, there is dictatorship everywhere, democratic and constitutional institutions are being finished. Unemployment is at its peak, farms and fields are being attacked and black laws are being imposed on the country’s ‘annadata’ (food provider). In such circumstances, it is our responsibility to save the country from such dictatorship and fight it. This is true patriotism. Let us pledge for “truth and equality” and Congress has been committed from the beginning to raise the voice of the nation. We will win again to rule the Country and our state”. Speaking on the occasion Rakesh Malli thanked everyone for their support, and asked the INTUC members to work in unity and make the organization strong to fight for the rights of the working class of people.
The programme began with the ‘Vande Matharam”song, followed by a welcome address by Dinaker Shetty, and introduction of INTUC and its projects by Bondala Chitharanjan Shetty, both of INTUC. The programme was meticulously and professionally by handsome young man, Sahil Rai. The programme ended with Rice distribution and sumptuous lunch for 1500 plus people.
