Richard Rodrigues Elected President of CASK

Mangaluru: CASK, ‘Catholic Association of South Kanara’ an association of Mangaluru that is 102 years old held it’s AGM and election of Executive office bearers and Governing Council members on September 18, 2016, Sunday. The association members gathered at St.Agnes College, Avila hall and a constructive interaction and constitution of a new team of management was successfully achieved as per the programme set out.

The new team is as Follows: President Richard Rodrigues, Vice Prez Nayana Fernandes and Capt Vincent Pais, Secretary Mario Saldanha, Jt Sec Dr Anand Pereira, Treasurer Walter D’Sa. The above office bearers were elected unanimously and were duly nominated as per regulations. Apart from the above a team of governing council members was also elected; the election process being presided over by Lilly Pereira a senior member and election officer. Dr Derek Lobo, who is an executive member, will continue as the key person of the ‘Centenary Trust’ that takes care of the social actions of CASK. The ‘Mangalore’ magazine which has regularly been published every month for the last 92 years will again be Edited by Patricia Lobo who continues from the last term and will be assisted by an Editorial team.

The newly elected office bearers took the stage and the President Richard Rodrigues did not mince words to indicate that with him at the helm of CASK he will basically continue the traditional good work of the last team and the historicity of this century old body of the Konkani catholic community of Kanara. He is confident that the experienced team now coming in will deliver to the best expectations in the immediate future. All the social responsibility and action will not only continue in a strong form but will also adapt to the modern times and needs of the younger generation. He welcomed opinions and suggestions on a regular basis and hopes to have a professional group to function as the “Think tank’ of the community for the times ahead.

Jeevan Saldanha, the newly elected KCCI President who is associated with CASK for a while was felicitated and he briefly addressed the gathering on special request of the outgoing President Capt. J P Menezes. After being felicitated Jeevan Saldanha said that he always wishes the CASk management well and will continue to do so, and also associate with the good works that are done a per the practices of KCCI Mangaluru. He indicated that he had positive plans on the drawing board for KCCI, in particular, IT and tourism are set to be given a boost.

The historicity of CASK : CASK was founded on 19 July 1914 and has always been led forward by a band of leaders known for their intellectual eminence, high integrity and driven by altruism. They functioned selflessly to further the interest of the community and the welfare of the poor and needy. The efforts have spread to many lands that today is home to the community diaspora contributing in a big way. It is apt to recall and thank them all for their selfless service to the community through the Association.
