Mangaluru: The School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya organized its annual “Kesarugadde” Sports 2016 at Bantwal here, on August 27.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Whip of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza said that the present generation is not aware of village sports and they are not even interested to know about it. He urged the students to visit the villages, meet the villagers and learn about their culture and tradition. “When we were small, the buffalo race (Kambala) was very popular and people used to take part in it. But now, the students are not interested to know our culture and tradition”, he said.

Speaking of the lack of enthusiasm in the younger generations in such events, Ivan further said, “Even today, I see students have come here only to see the Kesarugadde sports but not to take part in it because they are well dressed and don’t want to participate. This is the time for the students to take part in village sports and enjoy. They can experience a part of the culture and tradition of Tulunadu through this.”

Urging students to participate in the games, he said, “Do not hesitate to get down in slush field because there is no harm if you play in it. It is like the mud therapy which is good for health.” Ivan congratulated the organizers for giving an opportunity for the students to take part in the Kesarugadde sports.
