Rs 2.64 crore worth property related excise law violation cases booked in Udupi – DC Hephsiba Rani

Udupi: The District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that 15,821.56 liters of liquor, worth Rs 2.64 crore has been seized in the district since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at a press meet held at the DC Court Hall on April 9, Koralpati said that, three Lorries and 2 two-wheelers have been seized in connection with the violation of the model code of conduct. Although Rs 23.50 lakh in cash was seized in the district, it was handed over to the concerned after verifying the documents pertaining to the transportation of the cash. Already, 3695 licensed gun owners have deposited their firearms at the respective police stations. Relaxation has been made to 9 licensed gun owners, she said.

The deputy commissioner said that the district has 1111 polling booths. Sufficient numbers of control units, ballot units and VVPATs have been received in the district. Even the second randomisation of EVMs has been completed in the presence of the candidates. The work on the commissioning of the EVMs with symbol loading will be held in the presence of the BEL technical staff and candidates on April 9, she explained.

DC Hephsiba Rani reiterated that the voter slip alone is not sufficient for exercising the franchise. Along with the voter slip, the voters should produce either the EPIC or any other 11 documents identified by the Election Commission for exercising the franchise. Other documents are passport, driving licence, identity cards with photograph issued by state and Central public sector units, saving account passbooks with photo issued by the banks and post offices, PAN card, MGNREGS job cards, smart card issued under health scheme, pension document, official identity cards of MLA/MLC and Aadhaar. The ration card has not been identified as a document to exercise franchise, she clarified.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that 956 PRO’s, 956 APRO’s, 1912 PO’s and 250 micro observers are appointed for election duty.

In Udupi district, 112 complaints on violation of the model code of conduct have been registered through cVigil mobile app.
