Sahyadri bags VTU 1st Rank in BE Computer Science with 4 Gold Medals & 4 Ranks in M Tech

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Adyar-Mangaluru bags VTU 1st Rank in BE Computer Science with 4 Gold Medals & 4 additional Ranks in Master Degree

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Dr Srinivas Rao Kunte- Principal of Sahyadri College said, “VTU results are out and it is indeed a joyous and a proud moment for Sahyadri to announce that its students have bagged gold medals and ranks! The rigorous and relentless efforts of faculty, students and also their hard work, has brought fame and pride to Sahyadri. Sahyadri is delighted with the students’ achievements and rightfully so. Kudos!”

He further said, “The awarding ceremony will be held on the occasion of VTU Convocation, which is slated for 18th March 2019, in the august presence of His Excellency Shri. Venkaiah Naidu, Honourable Vice-President of India and His Excellency Shri. Vajubhai R. Vala, Honourable Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor, VTU. In Ranks in Bachelor of Engineering, Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty a student of BE Computer Science & Engineering of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru secured the first rank for her outstanding academic performance by VTU for the outgoing batch 2017-18. Out of 15,919 students of Computer Science & Engineering who appeared for the examinations, Ms. Pavithree stood first in the University. She will be accoladed with the four most prestigious Gold medals viz. “PESIT Gold Medal”, “R.N. Shetty Gold Medal”, “Jyothi Gold Medal” and “VTU Gold Medal” “.

“In addition to the above, Ms. Sthuthi K.A. from the BE (Civil Engineering) will be awarded “UltraTech Gold Medal” for having secured highest marks in the subject “Concrete Technology”. We have also secured four more ranks Ranks in M.Tech, where Manikanta P.V. got 3rd Rank in M.Tech – Civil CADS; Ms. Anusha K.,-6th Rank in M.Tech – Civil CADS; Ms. Athmeeya H.P.-5th Rank in MBA; and Varun K.- 10th Rank in MBA” added Dr Srinivas Rao.

Two rank holders, Ms Pavithree Shetty and Manikanta PV who were present during the press meet, were felicitated by their professors with flower bouquets. Ms Pavithree Shetty was accompanied by her dad and uncle also. Expressing her thoughts Pavithree B. Shetty said, ” My aspiration is to become a professor and pass on my knowledge to the coming generations. From a very young age I had an urge to teach others, and when I got a chance to listen to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam live, his words inspired me to become a professor. He wasn’t just a source of inspiration but my role model in life who taught me that it is not necessary to be a teacher to teach”.

“I’m really happy at the moment. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance of our faculties and management. I would like to thank God, my parents and my family who always supported me in all my endeavors. I’m grateful to Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examinations, who is my personal mentor, guide and whose valuable suggestions at every stage have finally borne fruit today. I would also like to thank Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, and Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management for providing us with all the facilities and practical based learning which help in the overall development of a student’s skill set. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Principal, Dean, HoD and the whole department of Computer Science & Engineering for being very supportive at every stage. Last but not least I would like to thank my friends for always being there for me. I’d always be grateful to this beautiful institution which has been the backbone to my success” added Ms Pavithree.

Rank holder in M Tech Manikanta PV also expressed his gratefulness to his College, chairman Manjunath Bhandary and all the faculties responsible for his achievement and making him reach greater heights. Prof Sudhir Shetty- Dean of Examinations, Dr Vishal Samartha- Director, MBA; Dr Gorabal-HoD of Computer Science; and Dr S Rajesh- Dean, Academy who were also present during the press meet also spoke about Ms Pavithree and Manikanta, and also about other rank holders, and said that they were all proud that their students have made them proud and the college on the whole.

About Ms. Pavithree B Shetty:

Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty is a Computer Science & Engineering Graduate from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. She is the daughter of Mr. H Balakrishna Shetty, a Businessman and Mrs. Amitha B. Shetty. At a young age of 12, she secured 73rd rank in the country in Junior Level of HRD exams. The very next year she bagged 7th Rank in the state in Science Talent Hunt. In SSLC board exams, she stood 1st in Koppa Taluk. Regarding her achievements at Sahyadri, her project titled ‘Smart City’ secured 1st place in the State Level Project Exhibition, ‘Srishti-2016’. Her final year project ‘Recognition of Handwritten Characters and converting them to Editorial Format using Machine Learning Techniques’ got a grant from the VTU. She was awarded the ‘Best Outgoing Student’ of CS Department and got placed in Moonraft Innovation Labs with a package of Rs 8 lakhs per annum. She wishes to pursue Master and Doctoral Degree to become a professor at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, which is Alma matter.

About Ms. Sthuthi K.A. :

Ms. Sthuthi K A future plan is to gain enormous knowledge in the field of construction technology and management. I’m planning to switch from private sector to the public sector in the future, once I get to know how the construction field works. In her message, she had said, ” Sahyadri always gave me wonderful opportunities to showcase my abilities. I was blessed to have supportive faculties and management, which always encouraged me in all the stages of college life. Presently she is working in Garden City Realty Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. I am extremely happy to receive “UltraTech Gold Medal” from VTU Belagavi. I thank my parents, Sahyadri, faculty and Management for extending all the support”.

About Manikanta P V:

Manikanta P who bagged 3rd rank in M.Tech – Civil, Computer Aided Design of Structures is presently working in a firm which has bagged a 15 Croce project of Karnataka Slum Development Board building 300 houses at Pavagada in Tumkur District. He has attributed his success to the innovative and competitive environment of Sahyadri which instilled in him the confidence to study hard. He wishes to join government services to serve the society in his chosen field.

About Ms. Anusha :

Ms. Anusha who bagged VTU 6th rank in M.Tech – Civil Computer-Aided Design of Structures works as a site engineer in Electronics City Industrial Township Authority, Bangalore. Anusha who hails from Arethippur Village of Maddur Taluk, Mandya District. She was inspired by Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director of Sahyadri, a great teacher & mentor and she opted Sahyadri for her Master’s Degree. She wishes to excel in the field of design of Structures by acquiring necessary exposure and experience. She said her accomplishments are due to the dynamic environment of Sahyadri. She thanked Sahyadri Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary for creating right facilities.

About Ms. Athmeeya H.P:

Athmeeya H.P secured the 5th rank in MBA- HR in the VTU university examinations. She was a consistent performer all through her four semesters. She was an engineering graduate and had 6years of work Experience before MBA at Sahyadri. She worked on the project titled ‘Idiosyncratic rater effect and its manifestation in performance appraisal system’ in a company in Mangalore and she scored 194 marks out of 200. She is the wife of Mr. Shreyas, Deputy commissioner of customs and GST.

In her message, Athmeeya says, “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers, parents, husband, and friends who have supported and inspired me in reaching this milestone. I am an engineer by training who decided to pursue MBA after a brief gap of 6 years from academics. Initially when I joined the Department of Business Administration at Sahyadri. This is when all the lecturers and faculty members of Sahyadri helped and inspired me. They were ever-welcoming to the silliest of doubts I carried to the staff rooms and did a virtual hand-holding to me in all the subjects I was not familiar with. They instilled in me a sense of belongingness and self-belief for which I am ever grateful to them. In fact, the entire ecosystem of Sahyadri MBA with its special focus on project-work, seminars and workshops, participation in events such as Whiz quiz, budget presentation etc has enriched me both personally and academically and added immense value to the process of pursuing MBA. In the future, I would like to build on the success and my learning’s in Sahyadri and pursue a career in teaching and also pursue a PhD from a reputed institution”.

About Varun K :

Varun K secured 10th rank in MBA Finance in the university examinations. He was a student with an excellent track record in academics and participated in all events of the college. He participated in the management fests at IIM Indore and IIM Bangalore. He also took up the summer school program at IIM Ahmedabad. He is presently placed through campus placements at KPMG Bangalore as an Audit Associate.

Varun K in his message says, “Self-belief and hard work will always earn you success” this is what Sahyadri taught me during my MBA. I am able to achieve this by believing what I had in me and my teachers who always were by my side. The hard work of my teachers and my interest to learn brought me to this day. I aim to complete PhD in Finance in future days. Education is complete when it is shared with others. I also wish to contribute to society as much as possible in my lifetime”.
