Salim Khan hails judgement on Haji Ali

Mumbai, Aug 27 (IANS) After the Bombay High Court verdict allowing entry of women up to the restricted grave area of the Haji Ali Dargah, superstar Salman Khan’s father and veteran writer Salim Khan welcomed it by saying that the judgement endorses what Hadees and Quran say.

Muslim clerics on Friday questioned the Bombay High Court verdict, asserting that while they respect the court, the ruling goes against Islam.

“High court judgement on Haji Ali endorses what Hadees and Quran have said. To be a good Muslim, you have to be a good human being,” Salim tweeted on Saturday.

Salim also shared that it’s the “Mullas and Maulvis”, who have complicated an uncomplicated religion like Islam.

“Mazar and Durga are graves men and women both can visit them as there is no gender discrimination in Islam. Mullas and Maulvis are complicating an uncomplicated religion like Islam,” he added.

The 80-year-old also shared that Fatwa is not a verdict.

“Even Fatwa is not a verdict as people think, it’s an opinion given by an Islamic scholar,” he wrote.

  1. Freedom of religion is a farce if the state decides what is integral to the religion. State encroachment into religious practices is a slippery slope to the curtailment of religious freedom and oppression of religion by the state.

  2. The Bombay High courts decision was reached by two Hindu judges. The decision raises the issue of whether the Hindu majority is using the State machinery to curtail religious freedom of minorities in the name of gender equality. Why meddling in Muslim religious affairs?

  3. “Judgement endorses what Hadees and Quran say….There is no gender discrimination in Islam” – report quoting an intellectual from Bollywood.

Yes – thanks for reminding us all how there is no gender discrimination, hatred or violence in those sacred texts. Everybody from Tunisia to Kasaragodu are wrong. All those scholars in Saudi Arabia and Iran are wrong. Bollywood is the only authority on these scriptures. smiles….

On a different note, ignoring all the anti-sanaathana rants by one Roy from ‘Beef Club’, I tend to agree with him in principle. State should stay out of this religious business. Every religious place has ‘sthala sampradaaya’ and those who don’t agree with those rules can stop visiting those places. Because, like almost every thing else in religion, these rules have no logic and focus on power consolidation. In some places, they stop women from entering. In some places, only certain types of brahmana people are allowed to do certain things. Are we going to have our courts rewrite laws for every temple, mosque and church? Oh well…
