Udupi: Sanskrit is for the nation said HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar. He was speaking at the All India Samskrit Convention organized at Sri Krishna Math here on January 8.
Language is a prominent medium to share ideas. It is ideal for communicating our views and opinions. Union government is playing a prominent role in promoting languages. The policy of the Indian government is that there should be a development of all the Indian languages. English is a link language and it has flourished due to the utilization of resources. If Sanskrit and other regional languages have to flourish then it should utilize all resources. The utilization of resources can pave way for development of languages.
Languages can effectively be used for educating people if the resources are available to promote it. Sanskrit Bharti has played an effective role in imparting Sanskrit to people.
Israel has utilized Hebrew in all walks of life being a small nation. Languages have to involve in capacity building.
The vision document on Sanskrit will be reviewed in 2 months and presented to the nation. PM Modi is playing a vital role in promoting languages. Developing language will lead to development of the nation, he added.

Don’t compare India with Israel. It is easy to introduce a national language in a small country with homogenous population. India is not Israel. India has diversified population and the country is too large to impose your will on anything especially languages. People will look at their priorities in life, resources they have, and willingness to accept, and beneficial impact of spending their time, energy and resources on new language that may not their priority. Imposing anything on people is a moot idea. First, work hard towards making the country a economic and military power and hope everything follows.
The country is not too large for will to be imposed; in fact, the country is too obtuse to understand that we somehow seem value the language of our colonial masters, our bygone rulers and oppressors, more than we value the language of our ancients. Sanskrit is our own language and what good fortune that it is the mother of all languages of the world! A citizen of India who understands that language must not be used only for person gain and economic competitiveness in the world but must also be used to build and encourage national pride, national honour and national consciousness as a first priority will love and promote Sanskrit will all his heart. Israel might be a small nation, which is right, but the Israelis take a lot of pride in the fact that Hebrew is their own language, the language of their ancients. They don’t give a damn about English like we Indian do! Gone is the India of Tilaks and Bhagat Singhs who valued English so little. Nowadays, the culture slavery to the whites is not just normal but is almost a high fashion and makes up very well for the lack of confidence in their nation and themselves.
