Udupi: In an attempt to increase green cover through seed ball culture for sustainable forest growth, a like-minded youth group called Sastana Mitraru, is working towards promoting cleanliness, and other task oriented activities.

The group organized seed ball making programme on Sunday May 28 at Seva Sangama Sastan here.

The objective of the seed ball preparation programme is to protect the environment by increasing tree cover. The programme is part of the organization’s aim to plant a maximum number of saplings in the district.

The balls will be made with seeds of fruit-yielding plants mixed with soil, dung, and cow urine. The seeds chosen will be of those trees which are known to grow in the local area.

These seed balls will later be thrown or sown under the soil during the monsoon so that they can grow into trees.
