Scintilla 2026 Explores the ‘Infinite Dimensions of Psychology’ at Roshni Nilaya
Mangaluru: The two-day National Conference, Scintilla 2026, themed “Multiverse: Infinite Dimensions of Psychology,” commenced at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru. Powered by MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited), the conference brought together students, research scholars, academicians, psychologists, counsellors, and mental health professionals to explore the diverse dimensions of psychology.
The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer, seeking divine blessings for the successful conduct of the conference. The gathering was formally welcomed by Asst. Prof. Thani Anwar, Organising Secretary of Scintilla 2026.
Dr. Rosa N. Mathew, Head of the Department of M.Sc. Counselling, introduced the theme of the conference, elaborating on the concept of the “Multiverse” as a metaphor for the infinite dimensions through which psychology seeks to understand the human mind, behaviour, relationships, well-being and lived experiences. She highlighted the importance of bringing together diverse perspectives to appreciate the complexity and possibilities inherent in human experience.
A significant moment of the inauguration was the unveiling of the Scintilla 2026 logo, featuring a brain symbol representing the limitless dimensions of human thought, perception, emotion, creativity and behaviour. The logo captured the central spirit of the conference—that psychology opens multiple pathways to understanding the complexities and possibilities of the human mind.
In his inspiring address, Prof. Mathew C. Ninan encouraged young people to rely on their own natural intelligence rather than becoming overly dependent on Artificial Intelligence. He highlighted the importance and power of listening—to peers, teachers and one another—and emphasised that when people truly listen, they heal, learn and grow together.
He further encouraged participants to attend academic events with complete presence and an open mind. Fondly recalling his long-standing association with Roshni Nilaya spanning almost five decades, Prof. Ninan also called upon the field of psychology to undertake original research that would strengthen India’s academic capabilities at the global level.
In her presidential address, Dr. Cecilia Farida Goveas, Controller of Examinations, appreciated the department for choosing a highly relevant theme. She beautifully connected the institution’s journey—from sustainable well-being and the mind—to the infinite dimensions of psychology. She found the theme’s focus on the inward journey of psychology particularly fascinating and lauded the department’s initiative to amalgamate academic and creative expression through the conference. She also congratulated the organising committee for their efforts in bringing the event to fruition.
The dais was also shared by Dr. Rosa N. Mathew, Head of the Department of M.Sc. Counselling; Asst. Prof. Thani Anwar, Organising Secretary; and Ms Riha Sheikh, Student President of the Holistic Wellbeing Forum.
The programme was compered by Ms. Ashila Hazra, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Riha Sheikh, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, delegates, faculty members, organising team, and all those who contributed to the successful commencement of Scintilla 2026.
